The beginning route shown in the first video requires at least three eggs, but you may want to gather more than that for safety. It is possible to make it through with only one egg (see IL WR), but requires very precise eggshots and is not recommended for full-game runs.
The IL shows a red coinless route that saves 0.5s on the score screen, but requires some tricky platforming in rooms 2 and 3. Here is an easier way to avoid the first red coins in room 2. [1]
